Carolina Holly (Ilex ambigua) - Shrub or small tree rarely up to 6m tall, the purple twigs glabrous; leaf-blades elliptic, oval, or suborbicular, 4—7cm long, serrulate or crenulate-serrulate, at least above the middle; drupe globose-oval, 6—7mm in diameter, red.

Habitat:

Sandy upland forests, dry slope forests, rarely in pocosin ecotones in the fall-line sandhills region.
